Plane Chasing

My second iMovie experiment. I might tweak it some more, but in case I don't come back to it... here are some highly edited cell phone pictures of our visit to the airport last weekend and one of my favorite songs, Dr. Shadow's "Organ Donor."

We wanted to check out "Airport Overlook," a place where you can park/sit and watch the planes take off. Then we ended up driving all around the perimeter and back roads of the airport to find a spot to watch the planes landing. We didn't find a good spot, but it was fun driving around "chasing the plans."

My Little Buttercup (Mick performs)

"My Little Buttercup" (thank you, Daddy, for teaching Mick this classic from "The Three Amigos")

"Oompa,  Loompa, I have another puzzle for you..." (thank you, Killian, who recently saw the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory play and has been performing it often)

"All the Single Ladies" (thank you, Beyonce and your catchy music)

Scenes from Summer Evenings

About 2 weeks ago, Mike and I were sitting around the table at the end of the day, and I said, "How about those Terrible 2's?" and we both had a good chuckle.

It was a joke because we really haven't experienced much of "the Terrible 2's" with Mick. He is usually such a sweetheart, ready to share with his brother, and always with a spontaneous, "I love you, Mommy. I love you, Daddy."

Leading up to that comment I made was a few weeks of what I would call the "Terrible 4's!" Lately all of our parenting energy and patience has gone towards Killian, who had been experiencing BIG EMOTIONS, and seemed to be having lot more difficulty co-existing with his brother.

I always assumed each year they get older, it gets easier, so it's funny to recognize when it's your expectations are so far off.

But then like that... it changed. Mick didn't turn into a terror, but all of a sudden, Mick became the default instigator and Killian became more calm and good-natured. (Not to say he still doesn't have his moments.) He has very thoughtful moments that leave my jaw dropped. "I know you're tired, so I won't ask you to read me any chapter books tonight."

For awhile I tried picking Killian up from school early (before Mick) and spending quality one-on-one time with him before getting his brother. This seemed to have ZERO effect on how nice he was towards his brother the rest of the evening. But the trick to a nice evening with both boys, I've learned is to GET OUT. Don't even stop by the house after school. Pack some water bottles, pick them up, and GO.

Imaginon is open in the evenings Tuesday - Thursday and the Mint Museum is open on Wednesday night. Playgrounds and splashgrounds are open all the time. So we find new places to go to and visit the old favorites too.

When they are outside in a big space, they're not on top of each other enough to fight, and they're also more engaged.

The secret to a peaceful evening with these two is to never go home. Pack some water bottles and go...

A little trip through Rainbow Hall

Mike is usually still working when I pick up the boys, so sometimes he joins us on our adventure after work, and sometimes he goes home to work on house projects while we're out.

My boys

Think they had more fun playing outside on the steps than they did inside.

KO Sushi is usually involved.

Or sometimes a friend's house.
The canvas painting project that started out like a Pinterest picture...

"Did they have bags for the horsies to poop in in the old days too?"

I'm not a player, I just brush a lot.

I'm trying to teach myself iMovie, and this is my first little project. It took me about 17 minutes to make this 17-second video. More to come.

"How about we make the whole town our backyard?"

This morning Killian (again) told me he wanted to move back to the condo. In discussing the cons of moving back to the condo and losing our backyard, he says, "How about we make the whole town our backyard?"

Sounds like the name of a great indie album. And I love the sentiment.
